Multilingual Reporting for Global Organisations Utilising BI Publisher XLIFF Files
How XLIFF Streamlines Multilingual ERP Reports
A major advantage of BI Publisher’s translation approach is its separation of report logic from language rendition. Instead of duplicating report layouts for every language, Oracle Cloud ERP lets you keep one template and associate it with multiple XLIFF translation files, each mapping a language’s localised strings. This ensures easier maintenance, since report logic and structure are updated only once.
01.
Prepare Your Report Layout
Use BI Publisher’s Template Builder in Microsoft Word to design your report (RTF format). All data and prompt headings should be clearly separated from dynamic data.
02.
Extract Text for Translation
Extract your Translation using the Template Builder toolbar, go to Tools > Translation > Extract Text or by downloading it from the report template you have uploaded into the application. Edit > Properties > Translations > Extract Translation. This generates an XLIFF file type from the selected Base Template file containing all strings intended for translation.
03.
Translate Using XLIFF
Edit the XLIFF file using your chsen text or XML editor. Each source string gets a corresponding target string for the translation.
Save the XLIFF translated files following Oracle’s conventions, like TemplateName_<language code>.xlf (for example, Invoice_nl.xlf for Dutch).
As you will see, the base report is written in English (en-US), whilst the translations will be written in Dutch (nl).
...
As you will see the, “Receipt Number” will use the translated heading “Ontvangstnummer”, when the report is run by a user whose report local is NL.
Upload the XLIFF File to your report template. Edit > Properties > Translations > Upload. This uploades and associated the XLIFF translation file to the report.
04.
Test Your Translations
Adjust user preferences, such as Report Locale, to view or schedule reports in different languages and confirm proper everything renders as expected.
